LMC & BWS Integration
Posted or Updated on 16 Jan 2026
Lyndhurst Medical Centre and Bursted Wood Surgery are integrating on 1 April 2026
Why are we doing this?
- To streamline patient services and increase same day access
- To create a more resilient organisation and build on the successful work the two surgeries have done together over the last five years
What are the patient benefits?
- Improved access by greater appointment choice and availability at both sites
- Access to a broader range of clinical professionals and expertise
- Expanded service offering and potential to offer more personalised care
How will it work?
- Both practices will stay at their current location and initially keep their names
- Clinicians will work across both sites
- Patients will be able to book appointments at either location
What’s happened so far?
- Discussions with the Patient Participation Groups took place in early 2025
- The proposal was approved by the Integrated Care Board in May 2025
- We invited patients to complete a survey in May/June asking them to let us know what they wanted to preserve/improve when the surgeries were integrated and let us have any questions
- We received over 220 responses and 400 questions which were grouped under themes and answered at a virtual patient Q&A session in July
- We then created this comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions (PDF, 112KB) document which covers these questions
- Other patient communications include surgery posters, notifications on both websites and social media posts
What happens next?
- In February, all Bursted Wood Surgery patient households will receive a letter from the Integrated Care Board explaining what the changes mean to them
- In early March, a recorded telephone message and notices on surgery plasma screens to remind patients about the integration will also go live
- In late March, another patient meeting will be held and details will be advertised on the websites and our Facebook pages
- In mid-April, the merged clinical records and telephone systems will go live
Do you have any questions?
